I started buying DVDs at the second hand store. They're so cheap and you can find almost every movie. I collected the entire sex and the city series in different thrift stores because they didn't have all of them in a single one. I recommend to everyone doing that, in the end it's cheaper than a subscription service.

I grew up Roman Catholic and went to a Catholic school my entire life. I do art and sometimes make fashion designs based on Catholicism, while still retaining the importance of respect toward the religion as a whole. It has always disgusted me when people would make sexualized versions of religious figures for shows, movies, designs, or really anything. There is a beauty to the “aesthetic” of Catholicism, but it should be tread on lightly as it is a real religion and belief of many. This is an amazing video that explained both the history of the Catholic Church along with the inspiration many pop culture icons get from it, and the level of respect you had while covering the topic was immaculate! Keep up the amazing work <3

I'd like to offer one note on "dress lending" for the purpose of making counterfeits, it was a very common practice and was a way women during the period could furnish some income. Remember, their husbands/fathers paid for these dresses back them. At least most of the time. My great grandmother was of Persian origin and inherited a number of finely woven mohair shawls which she gave out to weaving houses in the early 1900s to calibrate their punch cards. These weaving houses weren't slouches either. They would blend cashmere and fine lambswool to mimic the texture and would sell to similarly wealthy people.

Subscriptions also stop you from doing things casually. I only dip into digital art occasionally because of time and other hobbies I have. If I had to pay a subscription to do any digital art I would just give up and drop it because I just don't do it enough to be viable. If you have a subscription, you better use that all the time or you're just wasting money. There's a constant pressure to give your time to a subscription and that's not fun.

Sellers at farmers market have been exposed for selling non organic foods that they picked up at the local grocery or Costco too. It's not like the farmers market organizer go around inspecting their products before allowing them to sell. They take them at their words. I've seen documentaries about this where people have gone undercover and secretly filmed them unloading products from other businesses and cutting off labels and packaging to make them look organic and farm fresh. I guess the best way is to shop at local vendors that have a following and online presence that document their products coming directly from their actual farm. I would love to do only organic but I don't trust them (mostly ones at the grocery store) so I rather just save my money and buy the regular stuff if most is all the same anyways. And its not like the organic chicken is going to give me extra nutrients because they gave them a patch of grass 2 weeks before slaughter. That organic meat is still going through processes that is still not very green anyways. So you're paying premium for a label to feel better about yourself.

Wealthy people don't have a right to be thinner than me. If anyone is thinner than myself it should be because they are poor. If the rich want to be thinner than myself then they need to give up their wealthy lifestyle. It would make logical sense.

At the beginning of this streaming services era I was very willing to pay to watch movies/tv series, because I believed that it was the correct thing to do, to "pay directly" those who worked on those projects rather that rely on piracy. But after all these years, with scandals (like not paying those involved like actors ecc. once the movie is added on these streaming platforms after they've made even more money from it) and the straight up greed that controls this "new" industry, I'm much happier to look for my favourite movies through different sourcers...and free ones.

I miss DVDs!!! Nowadays it's also difficult to find them in stores. I still have a whole shelf in my room with all my favourite movies that I bought during my highschool years (it was not that long ago as well!). I have copies that are also full of bts content, something I've always loved so much.

Many silent films pre-1927 don't exist anymore because celluloid was so flammable and films were considered throwaway. So much was lost. It hurts my soul that 30 years of the internet will have the same fate.

I feel like these companies are taking advantage of society's collective addiction to content. (I'm not saying I'm not addicted!) Seeing how heartless and vacant The Rings of Power was was the final straw that made me want to get back into reading again and learn how to knit, just because I don't want to be used up and spat out by some company that does not have my interests at heart, or the interests of passionate artists, for that matter.

Pirate Bay still exists. And it's hard to have the hard drive space for it, but also as someone in a country that doesn't get streaming episodes episodes until 6 months later (or not at all), you do just have to torrent sometimes. I must admit that I enjoy the idea of patreon and directly paying the content creators I like. Also with the state of journal (another great video easy topic tbh) I actually subscribe to a lot of journalists to keep them running. Also Also, Mina please bring back the podcast stuff. I loved it. Would listen on patreon 😉

People always make fun of me for still owning a lot of dvd’s even though I’m in my 20s but I just like to actually own my favourite movies and know that a streaming service isn’t going to take it away. Particularly because I really like classic movies and it’s extremely rare to find a lot of them on streaming. I’m gonna keep buying my cheap dvd’s from thrift stores thank you very much 😂

I feel the fatigue so much. I open Netflix, want to watch a specific movie, it's not there anymore, start scrolling and end up not watching anything because it's just too much. I still have dvds of my favourite movies so I can watch them at any time I want and I don't get overwhelmed by the amount of dvds I have.

I recently had to move in with my elderly grandparents, which means it's strictly cable in this household. To be completely honest, i prefer cable now, whereas I was strictly streaming before. There is no analysis paralysis and I dont have to worry about 4 or 5 different payments to be pulled from my bank accounts at different times of month.

Unpopular opinion; I think we NEED dvd's to make a comeback, they were so useful.

When I was on high school, I loved to write anime fanfictions with OC. I was really sad when I found out the web site I wrote on no longer exists. You were able to create your own page throught their domain and make it for whatever you wanted. I liked to read these stories even when i cringed about them, it was nostalgia. I was sad when they was cancelled, they just disappeared from web.
